Companies looking to improve their search engine optimisation (SEO)
or formulate a new strategy should ensure they conduct thorough keyword
research.
According to Build-a-Web-Shop, firms should pay particular attention to this aspect of their website.
In
a piece for Article Maniac, the company asserted that many website
owners are aware what the general keywords are for optimising their
online portal, but struggle to be more specific.
"The biggest
mistake I see most businesses make and many SEO firms for that matter
is not targeting keywords for which you know you can rank for," it
commented.
Keywords selected should fit into three categories before they are selected, the company claimed.
It suggested that they need to be relevant, produce traffic and also be relatively non-competitive.
Build-a-Web-Shop
claimed that SEO should be a "predictable process" and that firms
should be able to work out how easy or difficult it will be to rank
highly for each keyword they select.
Earlier this month, Aaron
Wall, author of the SEO Book, said ecommerce customers should be
patient when awaiting results from their optimisation strategies.
In an article for Search Engine Land, the expert warned that real returns might take some months to emerge.
