Stone Temple Pilots is one of the most successful rock groups of all time. The popular band members include; lead singer Scott Weiland, guitarist Dean Deleo, bassist Robert Deleo and drummer Eric Kretz. The group’s music is described as a blend of modern alternative rock and hard rock from the 1970’s, forming the category of “arena rock.”
Stone Temple Pilots’ first album to be released was titled “Core,” which featured their number one hit song “Plush.” In 1993, this song established them as a multi-platinum band, and in 1994, won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
Stone Temple Pilots continued to produce hit after hit songs. Their second album “Purple” featured the popular songs “Big Empty” and “Vasoline.” This album also featured one of their top selling songs “Interstate Love Song.” This song stayed on the top of the Billboard’s Album Rock charts for fifteen weeks, which surpassed the record set by the Rolling Stones for their album “Start Me Up.”
In 2001, their fifth and final album released was “Shangri-La Dee Da.” Soon after the release of this album the group dispersed and went their separate ways. Two years later, the group released their Greatest Hits album titled “Thank You.” Through this album, the devoted fans found hope that the band would someday re-unite. Finally, in 2008, Stone Temple Pilots announced that they will kick off their tour season with sixty-five concert dates throughout the country. This marked their first tour in eight years.
Stone Temple Pilots’ five albums have collectively sold more than 5 million copies worldwide, and have produced fifteen top ten singles on the Billboard Rock Charts. The band has also won many awards over the course of their career. One of their first, and most prestigious award, was for Favorite Pop/Rock Artist and Heavy Metal/Hard Rock New Artist at the American Music Awards.
