Why Does the Mainstream Media Think We Can't Handle the Issues?
| posted by Shel HorowitzAnyoe else disgusted by the missed opportunity in the presidential debate? So much focus on trivia: the meaning of Wright's comments, or Barack's comment about bitterness.
Hey, folks--we want to know your plans to end the war, to rebuild the economy, to hold the Bush adminstration responsible for torture, to rebuild our status in the world, to address climate catastrophe, to bring government back to the people.
Greg Mitchell, writing in Huffington Post, said it better than I can:
"In perhaps the most embarrassing performance by the media in a major presidential debate in years, ABC News hosts Charles Gibson and George Stephanopolous focused mainly on trivial issues as Hillary Clinton and <http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tag/barack-obama>Barack Obamafaced off in Philadelphia. They, and their network, should hang their collective heads in shame.
Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the health care and mortgage crises, the overall state of the economy and dozens of other pressing issues had to wait for their few moments in the sun as <http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tag/barack-obama>Obama was pressed to explain his recent "bitter" gaffe and relationship with Rev. Wright (seemingly a dead issue) and not wearing a flag pin -- while Clinton had to answer again for her Bosnia trip exaggerations."
Gee, wasn't it only last week that ABC broke the story about the White House kaffeklatsch (Rice, rumsfeld, Powell etc.) outlining specific torture procedures? Coudn't the panel have asked about that?
Thank goodness for the alternative press--not just Huffington Post but dailyKos, Alternet, DemocracyNow, an hundreds lesser known.
