Event in NYC on Globalization and Sustainable Development

| posted by Christine Bullen

An important issue to me is the exetension of social responsibility by corporations to include their outsourcing service providers and supply chain partners. I am part of a new non-profit organization that is focused on social and economic impacts of global sourcing, called The Global Sourcing Council - http://www.gscouncil.org

There will be a meeting on Wednesday April 16 on the topic of Globalization and Sustainable Development in the Inforomation Age. There is no charge for attending this meeting and all are welcome. Here are the details:

 Date: Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 4PM to 7PM

Location: The Philippine Center, 556 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10036

Program:

Keynote Speaker: Sarbuland Khan, Executive Coordinator UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development  Topic: The Global Alliance for ICT and Development, G@ID, is a partnership and network supported by the UN. G@ID is actively pursuing the UN goals of a better, more peaceful world. The goal of G@ID is to use information and communication technology (ICT) as an instrument for overcoming poverty by bringing the 4.5 billion people living in poverty into the global economy and supporting the free flow of goods around the world. Information and communication technology provides a mechanism for accomplishing this goal in a sustainable way through the advantages it brings and the potential it creates for all groups in society. All groups, whoever they are and wherever they live should be able to use information and communication technologies. In addition, we will have a very special speaker for the second half of the program:  Steve KloeblenVice President Business Development, New Growth Platforms - World Development InitiativeIBM, World Development Initiative

Topic: The IBM World Development Initiative is developing a multi-faceted commercial business for IBM which is resulting in the increase of the quality of life and income for people at the "base of the socio-economic pyramid." IBM-WDI is collaborating with Governments, NGO's and commercial enterprises to enable their business strategies to reach this important marketplace in a socially responsible manner. This initiative supports the IBM corporate values of: enabling client success, innovation that matters for the world, and trust and integrity in all matters. Steve Kloeblen will discuss the unique manner in which this initiative has been implemented and review examples of IBMers who have built networks reaching out around the globe to countries such as India, China and Kenya.
