Forget the iPhone, Google's primary target with Android is Windows Mobile. - Inspired by Om Malik, founder of GigaOM

Google's new phone, the G-1, is creating almost as much buzz in the blogosphere as this week's presidential debate. While many, including Fast Company, have focused on how the G-1 will impact Apple's iPhone, some believe that Google's target is in fact elsewhere.

"The most immediate threat to Microsoft’s mobile platform — that comes from Google’s Android," writes Om Malik. While Malik does not believe the new phone will have any impact on the iPhone) the two have very different purposes and capabilities he argues), he does state: "Google’s Android… is a direct competitor to Windows Mobile. Put another way, it’s Windows Mobile done right. I say this because I have tried dozens of Windows Mobile-based phones and their user interface always leaves me feeling like someone with multiple cuts being submerged in salt water. Don’t get me wrong – I think Windows Mobile as an OS has come a long way since its early, awkward roots. It’s just that the new guys are better. A lot better."
