How come we're pointing the SkyNet finger at Google? Wouldn't Wal-Mart or even Harrods be a better candidate - they seem to know more about us and they also directly take our money...

When Google Labs unveils a prototype robot then I will be concerned!

@Jim You make a good point. But Google feels much more personally pervasive than Wal-Mart. I mean, they can read my email!

Everytime I read something like this, I play the computer checkers and beat it consistently until the feeling subsides....

I'm not completely convinced, Chris. I see the points and I have yet to see Google completely obliterating mankind as we know it. But if you DO find something scary, let us all know. We would really want to know! (Totally dig "Sky Net" in Google fonts, btw.)

LOL that's some pretty disturbing similarities, although I don't expect that google is going to grow sentience and take over the missile silos buried in Oklahoma. Humans are becoming more and more comfortable with "whatever works"... enough people got their hands on google before yahoo or ask jeeves had a chance, and now they run the game. I also had no idea they misspelled the word "googol." That's fantastic!

I think the comparison is amazing. Its about time the regulators did start to show they are increasingly uncomfortable about the rise of google.

I once read a blog a few years ago stating something extremely similar, and suggesting that google would create it's own cmputer, that was entirely wireless, without a hard drive, that would store all it's information on the internet...

I just read a newspaper article stating exactly that...
A Low power/low processor machine that only runs on minimal memory for temporary files, and hosts everything else in the google cloud. Good for browsing, emails and web applications.

And I can't wait!
