The Startup That Wants to Change The Way We Do Presentations

Presentation software abounds, but what if the presenter doesn't know how to tell a good story? We Are Visual set out to spare us all from bad lectures.

"A lot of speakers try to fit 10 pounds of information into a five-pound bag," says Nadine Hanafi describing one of the main issues people have when creating content for a presentation.

The CEO and founder of We Are Visual started the Miami-based company less than a year ago, and already they are changing the way people present.

Hanafi's skills first drew attention at a TEDxMiami where cofounder and curator Matthew Greer praised her work: "Nadine turns PowerPoint from a design liability into a design asset." We Are Visual focuses on keynotes, pitch decks, and webinars. One of their key services is called, "Presentation Rescue," which helps a speaker revitalize a deck with a custom, story-based design.

Nadine Hanafi

While We Are Visual is currently operating from South Florida, Hanafi has clients all over the world. She speaks five languages, which is proving to be an asset for the company's international clients. As for the future of the business, Hanafi is keen to expand her network of designers and change the way people tell stories on stage.

  • Nadine is extremely talented and a pleasure to work with! She is an expert in presentation design and goes above and beyond by also providing assistance in the perfection of the message.

Nadine worked with me on my TEDx presentation. The visuals that she created helped me ensure that my message "the power of math and science can make you a superhero!" would connect with both boys and girls. We also worked to make the message and visuals globally relevant. Together we were able to make math and science FUN!

Thanks to Nadine's work I am now able to inspire youth all over the US and across the globe to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM!) That's priceless!

A TED talk is a very distinctive type of presentation, and the visuals need to be as nuanced as the speakers themselves. As one of the organizers of TEDxCoconutGrove I can say unequivocally that Nadine Hanafi at We Are Visual captured the essence of our speaker's talks and translated them into powerful visuals. Every single speaker raved about her professionalism, energy, and creativity. Whether it was a tech savvy speaker completely comfortable with PPT or Prezi, or a speaker ill at ease with presentation slides, Nadine's unique ability created visuals that complimented each speaker individually. We are incredibly grateful for her support in helping to make TEDxCoconutGroce 2014 a huge success. Kudos to Nadine!

Nadine is such an incredible person to work with. She put together my Ted X talk in a matter of just over a week. Now I have over 6000 views and I just got an interview on dateline NBC from it. I don't think this would have been possible without Nadine!! Many of the comments I get about my talk are about how amazing the graphics are! I am so happy to see in this article that she is getting the credit she deserves!! I am so thankful to have worked with her!!

I worked with Nadine on a TEDx talk I was preparing. At first I told her I didn't think my talk needed visuals. She made some suggestions that I never would have thought of, and her graphics took my talk from "nice" to "powerful." She was responsive, professional, creative, organized, and smart. When I read the comments here, I thought, ME TOO! {Well, except that one negative comment from a green-eyed monster!} Nadine is exceptional and I have referred many clients to her. Thank you, Nadine, for making us better at what WE do by being so good at what YOU do.

  • I have been speaking professionally at elite level for 19 years and heard about Nadine and her work from a friend. I have NEVER used PowerPoint in my presentation before and was curious what was possible. Nadine was able to watch a DVD of my presentation and quickly show me how the right visuals can really add to my message. You have to have a great message and terrific skill from the platform, that is a given. Great visuals will not save you. I

I just got delivery of my slides and I am thrilled to integrate them my message and style. She agreed that less is more and she nailed it. Also, Danila, I checked out your slide share..you should hire Nadine, she could really help you.

  • I had the opportunity to work with Nadine Hanafi, she made me understand how to display content so as to REALLY resonate with and engage our audience.

We collaborated on a project for one of our client and I can tell you that there was a lot of work for us to reach a higher level. Now we are able to better showcase our value for our clients. This value is in our ability to tell a story, to create curiosity gaps and capture attention. If you understand that and you learn to put these principles to work in your presentation you've got it and your clients get it.

Each client is different, each project a different story, the approach is different and every time our customers are delighted with our presentations.

    Thank you to Nadine Hanafi.

  • There is a better way to reach the audience through simplicity and storytelling, and nadine have well understood that concept. In our company, in Belgium, we had really dry presentation and Nadine reinvigorate the material in totally fresh and interactive ways that will make it memorable and resonate with the audience, our customers. Congratulations to We are visual!

The ability to communicate an idea visually is an art and Nadine at We Are Visual certainly helped our speakers artfully communicate their ideas at TEDxCoconutGrove. In many cases she transformed the talks! Even when some of the information was complex, she was able to create beautiful simple slides that enhanced the talk, rather than distracted from them.

So true that simple is sometimes best, and Nadine thankfully achieved simple, elegant results for us that were not overdone. Wonderful piece about We Are Visual - congratulations!

  • I recently had Nadine Hanafi totally update my DISC keynote speech PP slide deck. She designs the slides for many TED speakers. She did a GREAT job for me at a very reasonable price. I was totally happy with the results. Used the new slides on my last speech and the client loved them.

  • Working with Nadine has been a pleasure. She has an amazing skill at visually articulating the message I wanted to share with my audience. I have worked with a handful of designers over the last 15 years, she is definitely one that builds the design around the audience and message, with a professional touch and great client services communication. You guys must exude pure awesomeness if her skills are not appreciated/respected by you. Considering how many compliments I received (and my A.D.D.) a couple weeks ago while presenting at a conference, she has earned a client for life. Keep on trucking Nadine! I really enjoyed this interview. Thank you.

Nadine is an A+ design pro and unlike any other PPT "designer" I have come across. I hired her recently and was blown away by dazzling slide deck she made me for a huge presentation - it really made me shine. Her understanding and intuitiveness for color, fonts, sizing and conceptual ideas is something so rare, I honestly did not think it existed. I have worked in branding for 25+ years can tell you that she really knows what she is doing. I am about to hire her again.

  • This is a thinly veiled ad. The company doesn't do anything special, it's just a design bureau. If you check their work http://www.wearevisual.com/makeover-slides/ you may notice that in more than half of presented cases they actually made the slides worse. I have a lot of experience designing and giving high impact presentations (check slideshare.net/danila for examples) so I speak from experience.

Just like by putting makeup on a woman should not turn herself into a slut, slide makeover should not remove all substance in favour of achieving a "designy" look. A simple slide with black text on white background is often better than a pretentious slide. Think about reuse, ease of modification and the scales shift even farther away from what "we are visual" preaches.

  • Ooohh Someone sounds jealous. There's enough work out there for everyone. No need to hate. Instead, COLLABORATE! You really should hire Nadine to help you with better presenting your slide shares so you don't have to come to another person's article and post non-valuable feedback like this.
