Many Acura TSX MI owners, approximately 167,000 in the nation, are facing a recall by Honda due to a potential fire hazard involving 2004-2008 models sold in the United States.
Acura TSX MI drivers should know the main component linked to the fire hazard is a power steering hose that could prematurely deteriorate due to “prolonged exposure to high under-hood temperatures.” The deterioration could lead to a crack in the hose, and ensuing leakage or spraying of power steering fluid onto a “hot exhaust component potentially generating smoke or a fire.”
According to a press release issued by Honda, it claims only one notification thus far of an actual fire resulting from the hazard. But in an article written by Christopher Jensen of The New York Times, the fire hazard is more widespread than the current recall, as “It is the third recall of an Acura model for a similar problem, now affecting almost 500,000 vehicles.”
Acura TSX owners will begin to receive recall notification letters near the end of May. For those Acura TSX MI owners needing additional information, they are being directed to owners.acura.com/recalls or may call (800) 382-2238 for more information.
