The Jackson Mississippi new car market has become very competitive making it necessary for new car buyers who are searching for that good DEAL to look beyond the initial price of a car. To find the better value, buyers will need to compare not only comparable features but how much that car will cost to own.

With the recent change in the popular mid-size sedan playing field two cars are going head-to-head, the 2010 Honda Accord and 2011 Hyundai Sonata.

The Honda Accord is the benchmark among family sedans. The 2010 Accord is Car and Driver’s “10Best” Award winner in the family sedan category for 2010. This is the 24th year the Accord has won the award in the 28 years that it has been given. No other model in any other category can match Accord’s dominance.

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata is the latest in a long list of competitors that have challenged Accord for family sedan supremacy. Hyundai has made good progress with this latest Sonata; however, Accord still has significant advantages.

  • Performance – For customers looking for performance, Accord V-6 models produce 71 more horsepower and 68 lbs.-ft. more torque than Sonata’s most powerful 4-cyl engine. The 2011 Sonata does not offer a V-6.
  • Suspension – All Accord models have a sophisticated 4-wheel double-wishbone suspension that is responsive to driver inputs while still providing a smooth and stable ride. The Accord EX and EX-L models come standard with a front shock tower brace (vs. none on the Sonata), which further stiffens Accord’s body structure and suspension platform for even more precise handling. All 2011 Sonata models have a MacPherson Strut front suspension; you’ll have to move up to the SE for a stiffer suspension with improved cornering.
  • Safety – While both cars have lengthy safety feature lists only the Accord has some notable advantages. Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure to enhance crash-energy management and crash compatibility. The Occupant position Detection System (OPDS) turns off the front passenger side airbag when a child or small-adult leans into the airbag deployment path.
  • Comfort and Convenience – The Sonata has gotten a little smaller inside for 2011 giving the Accord more advantages in spacious comfort. The Accord has more hip and shoulder room along with significantly more rear legroom for greater all-round comfort.
  • Cost – Although the Sonata price is lower, both Automotive Lease Guide (ALG) and Kelley Blue Book have named Accord the Best Resale Value for the Mid-Size Car segment. Accord’s lower depreciation over 36 months along with lower maintenance & repair cost give Jackson Honda buyers more reason to go with a proven winner, the Honda Accord.
