A new government program made available on April 22, Earth day, rebates
to customers who purchase energy efficient home appliances. This isn’t
the first time we have seen the government try to boost the economy. In
2009, the government came out with the Cash for Clunkers incentive
where car buyers could turn in their “clunker” or “not environment
friendly car” in return for a newer and more fuel-efficient vehicle.
The energy saving
rebates are distributed as follows: $200 for refrigerators, $100 for
clothes washers and $50 for air conditioners. Coupled with tax credits,
buyback recycling programs and other incentives offered by stores,
utilities and manufacturers, some savvy buyers could end up spending
less than half the sticker price for appliances. But the rebates are
limited. California
was allocated $35.3 million for the program, and state officials
expect to issue about 300,000 rebates. Other states that offered the
program ran out of money quickly. Florida’s $17.6-million program ran
out of funds a day after it was launched, while the $2.9 million set
aside in Iowa
was depleted within hours. Visit your local FL appliance store to see central air prices
