Growing older is just one of life’s great inevitabilities. It is going to happen to everyone sooner or later. And when it does happen, families often turn to nursing homes, also known as retirement communities, for the care of their loved ones. But the quality of care your loved ones receive can sometimes be anything but that, QUALITY.
At the Britthaven Nursing Home in Pineville, Kentucky, a nursing assistant left a resident on the edge of his bed. What the nursing assistant did not do was check the resident’s treatment plan. Had he done so, he would have seen that the resident was partially-paralyzed, and was to be moved only by two individuals at time.
Unfortunately, the resident fell from his bed. The nursing assistant still disregarded procedure, moving the resident before his injuries were assessed. The resident was later transferred to a Tennessee hospital. This particular branch of the Britthaven chain had received three stars, a so-called average rating.
