Food Truck and Street Food Movement can not be ignored. Kogi Korean BBQ Truck revolutionized and transformed the perception that street food is only suitable for those with tough stomaches and those that don't have a degree in culinary appreciation. Not any more.
The Street Food Movement is being lead by top chefs and entrepreneurs that have aligned technology, marketing and gourmet recipes. From Los Angeles to New York, top chefs around the US and the World are setting up shop...oops I mean food truck. Food Truck operators are designing and building fully custom trucks to meet their needs, although not cheap, custom trucks starting at around $100k have two benefits...no rent and great location.
With the growing popularity of these mobile kitchens, one company MobileCravings has developed an online community for street food lovers and street food operators. The site provides rich content on all things street food, along with reviews and tracking service. Founded by an MBA student, MobileCravings has found a niche thats really growing and is getting a lot of attention.
Should QSR be afraid? They are, numerous restaurants and QSR's that are calling the police and blocking access to the food trucks that are infringing their space. The solution, cities are getting involved and dedicated lots and areas where street food venders can gather. Portland Oregon is one city that has established this practice and it seems to be working well.
One can not deny that the Street Food Movement is the new QSR. These mobile kitchens are popping up and serving during lunch breaks, late night snacks and are also capitalizing on catering services.
