At around 3:30 pm, Monday, February 8th, in downtown Houston, a transit-bus collided with a light-rail train in front of Metro headquarters, sending nine passengers to the hospital. Officials are now reporting that Reginald Rideout, the driver of the bus, ran a red light while heading west on St. Joseph Parkway. The bus then collided with a light-rail train traveling north on Main Street. Mr. Reginald was one of the 9 passengers transported to area hospitals for the treatment of injuries.
While this accident happened in front of Metro headquarters, this incident was the first time a transit-bus and a light-rail train, both part of Houston’s Metro system, have ever collided. Metro authorities have determined that bus driver Reginald Rideout ran a red light, causing the incident, but have not yet determined why he did so. An investigation into both the bus and the train’s involvement in the collision is still under way. Mr. Rideout has been suspended while the investigation is pending.
