Traumatic brain injuries require immediate and specific medical care, and when patient care is delayed, the results can be devastating.

Accidents happen; in fact 1.4 million people are expected to experience a traumatic brain injury in the United Sates this year alone.   Your best chance for recovery is immediate and expert medical care by a hospital facility that specializes in treating these very specific cases of traumatic brain injury.   And with over 5.3 million Americans living with the results of a traumatic brain injury today, it seems that many people receive proper and immediate care for these catastrophic injuries.

But what happens when you receive care that is anything but immediate?  This was precisely the unfortunate scenario facing California woman, Jessica Ramirez.   She was forced to wait over 5 hours before she being treated; the victim of an air rifle accident that left Jessica with a pellet lodged in her brain.   With the pressure in her skull increasing, her brain continued to bleed, and Jessica passed out while waiting to receive care.

Despite being flown to Huntington Hospital and undergoing surgery some 5 hours later, Jessica will require around the clock care for the rest of her life.   Something that was entirely preventable, according the neurosurgeon who eventually operated on her.  While testifying on her behalf in court, Jessica’s neurosurgeon stressed that her outcome would have been much less severe had doctors not waited to operate on her and acted immediately in this emergency situation.  For the hospital’s gross negligence, California courts awarded Miss Ramirez 12 million dollars.
